FAQ

The NYPS (New Year Party and Show) is a variety show like what you use to find on TV and radio back in the 40’s and 50’s. The shows roots are in poetry but there is singing, comedy, stories, and many MANY other acts! We encourage audience to bring their talents; think “Open Mic Night”. Not even the host knows what to expect year after year. We’ve had Icelandic toasts, stories from abroad, singing, dancing, skits, bits and more!
Absolutely! This started out as a poetry recital (which was poorly recited) but has grown to be a community event and we always welcome more talents or skits! Do you have a song you want to sing? Were you a cheerleader in high school and still remember your rah-rah’s? Anyone can add to the show; it doesn’t need to be a polished act, it can just be something fun you want to share. If you want to join, send us an email, a Facebook message, or find Josh the day of the show and we’ll happily fit you in!
Black Tie Optional means that we don’t expect a Tux but you wouldn’t and should not feel out of place in one. This is a fun show but we also want it to be a fancier event. Will we kick you out? No. But we’ll give you a little side eye.
Historically this was purely a free event for the fun of it. We’ve grown now and our expenses have grown with it. As such, we ask that you contribute as much as you think fits what you get out of the show. Our suggested cover charge is $10 but if you only got $2 worth of entertainment from the show, then only throw $2 our way. We only keep anything if there are expenses, otherwise it goes to a Baltimore charity. Last year we raised $305 towards Signal 13!
Little Havana, our venue, has PLENTY of free parking for guests. In the very unlikely event they run out, there is a pay to park lot right next to it that is only a few dollars.
YES! While we would rather you come early and eat before or at least have your food before the show starts, you can absolutely order during the show! Our room has a bar in it for mixed drinks or beer or wine as well.
Absolutely! The more the merrier. Just keep in mind that our room is rather small and we run out of seating quickly. Come early, get dinner, a few drinks, mingle around! Especially if you bring a friend! Make it what it is; AN EVENT!
While the show itself tends to be on the tamer end of things, there are some adult themes and language. Just know that the content could get heavy for a child. Josh’s daughter was at the 10th show and she did have a great time.
